What is Graphic Design?
“Graphic design, also known as communication design, is the art and practice of planning and projecting ideas and experiences with visual and textual content. The form of the communication can be physical or virtual, and may include images, words, or graphic forms”.

“Growing up, I always wanted to be a designer. I loved drawing and sketching ideas to promote things – gigs, sports events, parties. I always enjoyed drawing cartoons of my friends and using them in designs that I’d piece together. I went to uni and did a degree in graphic design and here I fell in love with the idea of creating movie posters. I started mocking up my versions of popular gangster movies like Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Revolver. I love the challenge of communicating a message and selling something within a design which is why I’ve always worked in the B2B arena I guess! Essentially, a graphic design specialist is a commercial artist who takes commissions to create design solutions that sell the services of others.
It is all about problem solving with aesthetic balance. That is where the skill is. Designers train for years at uni and they have to know their stuff to get a career off the ground. Knowing what will look good but also get the message across is a talent that not many people have so I feel privileged to work with some excellent designers at Design Pit here in Lichfield. Staffordshire is the creative county and we are making strides in the most creative industry there is!”.
