July was a super busy month from a networking perspective. We sponsored an online zoom meeting with Dorset Chamber and took a Spotlight at The Boardroom Network. These sessions were great opportunities to raise the profile of the business in the south west region, presenting to around 150 businesses across the two sessions.
After over a year and a half of Zoom networking, presentations like this have become an opportunity to whack up a short video and take some time to chill while your video does the hard yards for you.
And this is what I was keen to avoid.
I didn’t want to hide behind a video, I wanted to present my business and get my passion for design and marketing across. So I went ‘old school’ and used a Microsoft PowerPoint slide deck! I utilised some of the amazing photography created for me by Bertie Coy, and put a short 8/9 minute presentation that has now become my base for future presentations.

Here are my top 5 tips for presenting with PowerPoint on Zoom:
- Make the presentation visual.
Be creative and engage your audience with some nice visuals that support your brand and message.
- Use bulletpoints, not long copy.
Keeping text short and sharp will always work better and be easier to read.
- Don’t read your slides.
Everyone can read your bullet points and would rather hear you flesh out the bulletpoints with additional information.
- Get to the point.
Don’t beat around the bush, don’t flower things up, just say what you want to say – 10 minutes is not a long time!
- Have fun, get your personality across.
People buy from people – you need to get your own personality and humour into your presentation so your audience can have a little insight to you as a person as well as a business.
