Spartans Rugby Union Football Club is a unique place. The club has been established for over 50 years and attracts amateur rugby players from Staffordshire, West Midlands, Warwickshire and beyond. They count four senior men’s teams and a thriving junior section that grows year on year. Design Pit Creative Director Gareth Robertson, played in the All Black kit of Spartans for nearly ten years and plans to return to rugby later next year – albeit in the Vets team. During his temporary retirement, Gareth has been working with the club as they plan ahead to transform the club into a more professional and efficient organization.

Gareth was appointed as Identity and Brand Manager for Spartans in 2016 and oversees the seasonal club fixture book, assists with sponsorship packages and club events. He reports to Club Transformation Coordinator Paul Glover and last month (September) the pair worked on a project for some internal large format graphics that would transform the reception foyer at the clubhouse on Coppice Lane near Middleton, Sutton Coldfield.

Not only did Gareth create a bespoke design for the printed wallpaper graphics, but he also designed some acrylic signs to display the rugby club badge and the cricket club badge – who ground share with Spartans. He went on to design a new branded floor mat which greets opposition players, spectators and visitors to the club as they enter the foyer through to the main bar. The end result is fantastic and breathes a new lease of life into a tired old space.

Gareth said, “I’m proud to be able to support my own rugby club with a face lift like this. Although I’ve not played in 3 or 4 years, I still count Coppice Lane as a special place. Now the club is starting a transformation process, I was thrilled to be asked to have some input, hopefully this interior design project will be the first of many changes at Spartans as they grow the strong foundations at the club”.

Printed wallpaper graphics are a great way to redress any wall space and add some instant impact. Working with a design company like Design Pit will ensure a great design that has maximum impact once the wallpaper is printed and installed.
