Working in a Post Covid World…

As we exit lockdown, the business community are gearing up to kick start the economy and a tough few months lie ahead. Come July 4th, non-essential retail and hospitality are allowed to reopen.

Here at Design Pit, we have been very fortunate to carry on working right the way through lockdown. We’ve had to innovate and change the way we work but we’ve been fortunate to have clients still operating through the pandemic who have required creative design and marketing support. Usually, at this time of year we would be working on a plethora of different creative challenges from branding and identity work to design for print or web. Exhibition graphics and point of sale to packaging but this year has obviously been quite different.

This year, the call for exhibition graphics has been completely zero and a lot of people we work with on print related projects have pulled the plug or delayed until later in the year. This happened overnight on the 23rd March as the government announced measures to lockdown. At this point, we were left with a decision to make – shut down, buckle up and hope to survive a bumpy ride, or… innovate and do something different…

And this is what we did…

Graphic design is visual storytelling. In a nutshell, that is what it is. And with less call for design in the traditional media that we work in regularly, we needed to switch our focus to an area of marketing that people in business were clamouring for support in…

Social Media.

In the early days of lockdown, vast majority of the population were automatically furloughed or on gardening leave and people found themselves sat at home scrolling the pages of Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. Our screen time shot through the roof and we were tuned into these global networks – watching fitness people adapt new training regimes to home sessions, yummy mummys discovering new creative ways of home-schooling children and as a nation we religiously sat and watched the daily corona-update at 4:45pm every day… We were glued to our phones before, and now we were consumed by the information we could get from them at the swipe of a finger.

This is where savvy businesses needed to be.

And this is where we could add value as a design and marketing company. This is when Social Pit was born. A new division of Design Pit that focusses solely on desiging and creating bold and brave social media content creation and deployment across Facebook and Instagram. And boy… have we had some success with it…

As we exit lockdown, social media will continue to play a big part in our daily lives. We are plugged into it and drawn back to it more than ever. Facebook in particular is evolving into an alternative version of the internet where you can do literally everything from catch up with old uni chums, to posting coVIDEOs of lockdown life, to feeding sales funnels and pipelines and buying online…

This is a space that businesses need to be in and if they are already, they need to work out ways of doing better things to get seen, heard and remembered.

So why move into this space?…

Content drives the online world. Great visual content with a strong narrative and message is what people buy into. It is no different to designing an advert for a glossy advertiser or a banner for a Google advert; the core principles of design remain the same. And the design element in this equation is what differentiates us in this area against competitors. With our creative graphical and visual skills, and our rapidly expanding knowledge of the main social platforms – we are able to offer a unique service that is led by great visual content and strategically driven digital marketing campaigns rather than a deep, tech driven knowledge of algorithms or the inner workings of a social platform.

When lockdown is fully eased and we get back to a more normal way of life, we will carry on serving clients with bold and brilliant social media content. As a design company, we feel that this is a pretty unique offering and we plan to carry on making waves in this space. There are some exciting new challenges on the horizon for Design Pit and the introduction of Social Pit as a sub-division is very well timed in that respect as well. More news to follow on that very soon – please keep an eye on the Blog for more updates.

For now, think about what the post Covid world is looking like for you and your business. What are you doing to innovate and what are you planning for in the short, medium and longer term? If you have plans and need support with your creative output across the media spectrum, we’d love to help. Why not book a call here and chat it through?
